The adventure of Knowledge. TVE. Childhood obesity
The IMDEA Food Research Institute is carrying out a study on childhood obesity in 6 schools of the Community of Madrid in order to design strategies for the prevention and treatment of this disease. In the study, about 300 school children of 6 or 7 years of 1st of Primary Education participate, and it will end in 2021 when these students reach the age of 10 or 11 years. During this period the nutritional status of the students will be evaluated, including genetic determinations, which will allow both an initial evaluation and subsequent actions to promote a healthy lifestyle. At this moment in Spain, and according to the ALADINO study, 41.3% of school children between 6 and 9 years old are obese or overweight.
